Hello everyone,
Would like to know if generator bolt area breathes
I removed generator bolt cover to adjust timing and found it has a crack, question is, would it take extra air from here and influence smooth running of einge?
thanks,

Unless the GL series in later years had a provision for PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) no. The crank case is essentially at ambient pressure. You could probably find a replacement cover easily. I think it's a common part on the GL and 750K.

A crack in the cover should have no influence. and as was mentioned he the crank case breathes to the atmosphere and not the induction system.

Re: GL1000 Generator bolt cover cracked
If it is stock it goes from engine, into the air box, then another tube to the breather chamber. So it does technically run through the intake system. But I also don't believe the cracked cover would have any affect.salukispeed wrote:A crack in the cover should have no influence. and as was mentioned he the crank case breathes to the atmosphere and not the induction system.

Someone broke mine off years ago.TorontoGL wrote:Thanks everyone, I did find one and it is in mail just wanted to ensure that a leak in this cover does not impact running. Thanks,
Been running with a piece of duct tape over the hole ever since.
Color is pretty close and no running issues.
BTW, does the motor have to be out to replace that cover ?
