I'm replacing the horn on my 77 GL with one of a car horn with two terminals as well. My 4 terminal relay has the standard #85, 86, 87, and 30 on it. The 77 has the two wires to the original horn but I'm still getting confused as to what goes to which terminal. I've been reading the various posts but can't find a simple diagram for what wires I need to run to the terminals, horn, or bike.
Is there a diagram someone can point me to?

Re: Horn Relay Wiring for 77 GL1000
Thanks Whiskerfish for the link but I need even more hand holding. If I have more than one wire to deal with I get confused!
Terminal 30 on the relay has to go to the battery or some other 12 v source. That leaves the other 3 terminals to deal with.
There is a black wire and a light green wire coming out of the horn. Do both wires need to be cut and connected to the relay or do I just cut one of them and connect each end of that wire to two of the relay terminals?

Green wire should be ground and can go to frame or other green wire in the harness.
Black is connected to the relay and the other tow would go to the horn button.

Re: Horn Relay Wiring for 77 GL1000
SUCCESS! After a lot of hand holding you guys finally got through to me on how to wire a horn relay. Your explanations along with the article by Duane Knodel did the trick. When I finally knew how to wire it I sketched it out and then made a bracket for the horn and started to attach the terminals to the wires. I discovered you could buy a junction block with pigtails on it for a 4 or 5 terminal relay, so for $5 from Advance Auto I bought one. (You can also buy a relay and junction block together but I already had the relay.) I thought it would make a much better looking job. If I hadn't already attached the top shelter cover I would have drilled and mounted the relay just in front of the air box. I opted for the frame with wire ties plus I can get to it easily if I have to. I now have a nice loud Fiamm horn from a Ford. I know this was a pretty basic thing, wiring this up but I have already spent so much time on this bike I didn't want to melt any wires by miss-wiring it. I certainly understand relays a lot better so this was good training for me.

I know the feeling. Little by little we get it.
If it weren't for moto forums I would know a lot less about my 78 than I do....which isn't all that!
1978GL1000 naked - kinda sadly gone. no bike at the moment.
