I got my Dyna ignition in today and installed it in the 79. It runs great but I had a real problem with the screws that hold the plate down. It seems the PO had put in some off the shelf slotted screws that were huge and it was keeping the plate from turning. I finally got it to work but I really need to find out where I can get some original screws?
I thought Randakk might sell them but I didn't see any there. I believe they are 6 x 12mm?
When I set the timing I couldn't get it dead on but it is very close.
Dave

Re: Dyna ignition install
Others have shaved one edge of washers to pinch the plate using different screws. It’s a tight fit.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Why not check your local Ace or similar hardware store.leggman wrote:I got my Dyna ignition in today and installed it in the 79. Mine has every size you could think of both standard and metric.

Yep. Ace is the place. That's where I went. In fact, there are Ace hardware bits in each and every motorcycle I own. Metric is metric. Stainless and chrome are nice, too - and Ace has a nice selection of those, too. Of course, in your case, that won't be necessary!

Re: Dyna ignition install
I had to modify mine when I installed it several years ago. The two pickup bodies interfered with each other to get the timing set. Field modifications is the term that comes to mind. A little work with a file and no problems for about 6 years.

The newer ones have smaller pickups. I've never had that same issue with those. The old style yes.todd54219 wrote:I had to modify mine when I installed it several years ago.
