'76 GL1000 rear brake fittings
Can someone say what the thread size (diameter and pitch) of the hole where the brake line attaches to both the caliper and the MC?
I'm rebuilding my brakes and want to make new braided lined and fittings.
Thanks for any info someone can provide.

Bought mine from Raymond. Great service and quality lines.
Unless you are dead set on making your own..buying pre made ones would be much easier.

Re: '76 GL1000 rear brake fittings
I have enough stainless braided line and banjo fittings left over from my 750 restoration and wanted to use it on the GL1000. Was hoping to order rear fittings today in hopes of getting them by Friday.

10 x 1.25. The master cylinder fitting doesn't take banjo since it's a compression fitting.

You can get adapters, but they stick out into the swing arm path. I shortened a banjo bolt a couple of millimeters to clear the internal flare in the MC (it's not a compression fitting; those have the little ferrule you stick onto the pipe) and used a 90 degree banjo fitting. I used Goodridge lines; you buy the lines separate from the fittings and just screw them together.

Re: '76 GL1000 rear brake fittings
Are you suggesting that a compression fitting is not necessary?

I think a 90 deg. banjo fitting on both the MC and caliper with a 10x1.25 banjo bolt might work as long as the bolt doesn't bottom out and there is enough flat seating area on the face of the MC and caliper for the banjo washer to seat against.

Re: '76 GL1000 rear brake fittings
If you're asking me, I'm saying that the rear MC doesn't have a compression fitting, it's an inverted flare. Compression fittings use a ferrule, or "olive" that is slid on the line between the nut and the seat. Inverted flares have been standard on most automotive brake systems for centuries, although there are "bubble" flares on many Japanese cars.odyssey wrote:Are you suggesting that a compression fitting is not necessary?
You don't need a 90 banjo on the caliper, that takes a 15 just fine.

Re: '76 GL1000 rear brake fittings
Yes, I knew that the hard line has an inverted flare but someone wrote in a different post 'compression fitting' so I thought it's the same. Thank you for clarifying.

Re: '76 GL1000 rear brake fittings
I finally received the 90 deg fittings and have the rear brake finished. Still have to finish the swing arm rebuild before I can install it. The braided lines really make a difference in eliminating the softness the rubber lines have.odyssey wrote:Sounds good, send a picture when you're done.
