Fork Spring Length

#1

Post by Alarmdoc »

I have just spent the weekend rebuilding the front forks on my 75 1000.
I had two different 75's and had to mix and match some of the parts as I was unable to get the seal out on one of the legs, and the bottom screw head of the fork was rounded out on another.

Needless to say I managed to get one set back together.

I am ready to reinstall the springs and noticed that one set of springs is 20" long and the other set is 21 1/4 " long.

The manual says that the spring should be 20.4 ".

Does the 1 1/4 longer spring make any difference?

Thank you

The longer springs may make the ride a bit stiffer. May also make it harder to get the top cap back on. I would use the longer springs if it was me. The shorter ones sound like they are out of spec.

The longer ones may be Progressives added by a previous owner.
