is this picture from an 82? I,m pretty sure the pump doesn't look like that...
But anyway, I changed everything that could be changed when I reassembled the front end of the engine.
Yes. 82 1100. What you are seeing is the oil pump. The shaft for the water pump goes thru that seal and is driven by the oil pump.

I've never ordered a gasket, o-ring kit..I always ordered the parts individually from honda..
if the kit doesn't include that seal and o-ring then it would be extremely easy to skip replacing them.

Oil now leaking out the weep hole on my recently resurrected '81, therefore I'm commenting so I can easily find this thread and avoid starting a duplicate thread.
And the pics on Octane's early thread are no longer accessible

oil can leak from three sources. O-ring n the pump, seal on the pump and the crush washers where the pump is bolted on. Coolant from two sources, O-ring on pump and front seal

Thanks. Now bookmarked and gasket kit ordered. I'll dig in this weekend.
It probably happened after I tightened down the coolant pump to fix a small leak, which may have damaged other internal seals leading to the oil leak.

there does not appear to be any coolant leaking from the weep hole, but i'll replace the main oring anyway.
