Maybe just poor quality starter .... but I have seen high compression engines do this ....

It takes a 12mm socket/wrench to turn the bolt in the rotor. The cap takes a 17mm wrench to remove it.

Shoùld the starter gear case be packed with grease . My failed starter had only a light smear of grease in it
