Re: clutch cable
I believe it is the spring that attaches to the lower arm. A return spring when the clutch pull is relesed

Re: clutch cable
The spring provides resistance to the direction of pull. I don't recall the exact install points, but it should be "fairly" intuitive. (I guess it would be more intuitive if you weren't also playing gynecologist and had room to move). There are probably photos floating around of the assembly. I recently had mine apart and back together. It wasn't too tough to get back in place. It was so uneventful, I don't recall the specifics!

Re: clutch cable
my thanks to Sugs and Track T 2411, suddenly the clouds have dissipated... which leaves the question of how do i reconnect the cable this end: slack off the adjuster (turning the screw clockwise) and try hauling the cable into position with a pair of long nose pliers, or unscrew that whole assembly as in the Sugs picture, and kinda cheat a little???

Re: clutch cable
not trying to complicate matters, but something to be aware of: some replacement cables out there (in case you decide to, or have to, go that route eventually) have a bit wider teardrop end on them and it can be tricky at best to get it back into the little cage on the lever arm (especially since your engine's still installed). sometimes the cage has to be levered open a bit... but if you're just replacing the cable end that came out recently you should be okay.

Re: clutch cable
If you have some long skinny needle nose pliers that will help. And you can get some slack by screwing in the adjuster right at the housing.

Re: clutch cable
That will require replacing the gasket as well... I'd not go there. My 2 cents...ifm61 wrote:should i try and take the entire thing off like in your picture Sugs?

Agree with Track, no need to take off the housing.

Re: clutch cable
I also had this problem with a new cable, so check this if necessary.heraldhamster wrote:some replacement cables out there (in case you decide to, or have to, go that route eventually) have a bit wider teardrop end on them and it can be tricky at best to get it back into the little cage on the lever arm (especially since your engine's still installed). sometimes the cage has to be levered open a bit... but if you're just replacing the cable end that came out recently you should be okay.

Re: clutch cable
never mind. unscrewed the lock nut, took the arm off, fitted the cable end in the lifter, then pulled the spring over the pole with newly acquired $37 angle nosed pliers... now for some adjustments, such as my lower back, wrists, fingers...

Re: clutch cable
cannot, for the life of me, get the adjustment correct at the lever. the write up in the manual which mentions turning the adjustment screw clockwise until 'resistance is felt?' and then backing off 3/4 turn - done. turned out the lower adjuster (how far does it go?) as far as i dare - done. at the lever, i've the adjustment srewed pretty much to the very outside edge of the barrel it sits in, but still its loose... what am i doing wrong?

Re: clutch cable
You may not be doing anything wrong, I actually had a new clutch cable slide the seat ring that is around the barrel that slides into the cover housing. Every time I would adjust and then squeeze the clutch lever, the little ring would slide and the clutch would be loose again. Here's a picture. See the ring on the barrel? That's the correct position about an inch from the end. If its farther up than the picture, could be your problem.
