Ebc rotors

#1

Post by Wangthang »

I just purchased a pair of ebc pro lite rotors. Has anyone tried these rotors with oem calipers? Wondering if i will see an improvement in braking. I changed to a 14mm Chinese master cylinder, and will be installing steel brake lines. It has to help.

I have a set of EBC's on the front of my dresser with SS lines and a Randakk M/C. It is a very good combination. I do not know what model the EBC's are as they were bought used but they have warped some and I get a pulse when the bike is slowing.

Oh and I did have to add an extra washer to get the caliper offset just right.

Not a big fan of Chinese parts but you may have better luck than I did. The stock master cylinder (M/C) is 11/16" which is too big. It gives a wooden feeling. Going to a 5/8" (14mm is close enough) vastly improves the brakes.

I also put EBC rotors with stainless steel braided lines and a 5/8" M/C with stock single piston calipers. Wow is all I can say! The bike stocks on a dime and the brakes are a pleasure to use. IMO, this is combo to use without swapping front end parts.

Just for clarification 11/16 = 17mm 5/8 = 16mm 9/16 = 14mm

I hear good things about the rotors, do they recommend any particular pads? I used the china 14mm master cylinder on my 79 and loved it. A little more travel but good feel and awesome braking.

I know what you mean, but sometimes it's acceptable.
My radiator on my CB1300 needed replacing.
For a genuine Honda rad - £650
Ebay (Chinese) special £50.

Thought may as well give it a go and it lasted two years. Not exactly the same width, had to pack out the bolts holding the grill on with washers, but you can only tell if you look closely. Just needed to change it again, for £45!!!!!!

That said, not sure I'd risk it on certain vital components, like brakes, but I daresay the quality is improving all the time.

Chinese quality has come a long way. My company has production facilities in both China and India. Chinese industry has been manufacturing for the automotive, medical and electronics industry for a long time, and these industries have very stringent quality standards.

Now, India is another matter. They are were China was 25 years ago . . .

Brake pads to use are EBC FA20V for the fronts and FA32V for the rear. The V rating is semi-sinistered aka semi-metallic. Won't gall the rotors and stops the bike better than glue on a mouse trap. :crosso

You can't get away from Chinese parts, however you might want to. I bet almost everything one person can lift and carry alone is made in China, or maybe Southeast Asia, depending on what it is. The OEM heated grips I bought from Honda last year were marked "Made in China", as was a clutch lever.

Over the last couple of decades many Manufacturers have become more educated when dealing with oversea's subcontractors. This has resulted in more specific requirements regarding quality standards being written into contracts. There is still tons of junk out there but improvement are being made in many areas.

The old belief of made in China means junk is not necessarily always the case and I think as time goes on it will become less and less the truth.

my 2 cents

I'm old enough to remember when Japan went thru the same learning curve. China is going down a path that will lead to much better products across the board. So little is made in this country anymore, we have little choice. And as the quality increases, so will the price. Let the buyer beware. The less something costs, the less it is worth,.....in most cases

what irks me is..you get the white box "made in China" stuff for a reasonable price or..you pay a premium price for OEM that more often then not is the same thing in a prettier brand name labelled box.

I'm sure that happens from time to time. But the OEM spec. that the part was built to is probably better. Many U.S. based companies, and some from other countries as well, spec the parts they are having built for them in China. Where as the parts from China are often designed to look like the right part, but don't hold up or fit. Pretend that the cost of both parts is "free". Only compare the "quality". OEM wins almost always.
