Is This Rim Trashed?

#1

Post by BlueThunder »

While restoring this UniGo trailer, I noticed that the wheel had a lot of play. Thinking that the bearings were shot, I discovered this:

Apparently the bearing was spinning within the rim. My question... can this rim be repaired to fit the bearing or is the rim trashed?

A decent machinist could bore the wheel to correct run-out and hole integrity , then turn up a bushing that presses in that fits the wheel and bearing, Provided the wheel hub is still sound and no cracks

I would check into finding a replacement and just being done with it.
sometimes it ends up being a lot easier (and cheaper) in the end.

And since it is the only wheel on a one wheel trailer , I would want the best I could get, for safety's sake.
Turns out a new wheel is only $199CDN. So after doing the conversion..... its basically free!
