1982 GL1100 water/oil pump cover removal
Anyone have tips or suggestions on how to get the front engine cover off the motor?
It's the part that houses the oil and water pumps and I believe it is just held on by a dozen or so bolts, no gaskets, maybe dowelled. There are other sources suggesting to strike the tab on the side of the cover in order to dislodge it and I have tried that but I don't like hitting things that are not nails with hammers, brass drifts or screwdrivers!
Suggestions welcome
cheers
Dean

Just make sure you have ALL the bolts out. Some are pretty well hidden.

9, what look like phillips head screws, hold it on. Plus, 2 of the bolts in the lower radiator hose fitting that is in front of the water pump. Then a dead blow hammer on those "ears" at the bottom corners should do it. Don't hit it with anything harder.
And if you want to replace those 9 screws let me know. I sell a kit that replaces those that makes future removal easier. You can see it in the for sale section.

Actually, the 1100's use bolts throughout...

Thanks for the feedback, all the bolts are out and I will gently tap away until it's off.

If the front cover had some Philips heads, something's been done there... just saying...Dusterdude wrote:fyi,my 1980 1100 motor had some phillip head screws in it.not sure if it has ever been trifled with though.
