Hello everyone,
GL addiction continues and here is the latest addition in to family.
A 1977 GL1000 in beautiful Red colour which is very very clean just surface dirty that will get a good wash as soon as we get a warmer or less colder sunny day here in Toronto.
It came with Vetter fairing and rather nicer colour matched bags and trunk, I have removed everything but did not get rid of bags as they look decent enough to be mounted on bike slightly different than they were 40 years ago.
However now I need some help with a reference photo if any member can take and post. Left side shelter pannel opened showing all wires and connectors.
Following is photo of my bike, there is rubber boot holding bunch of wires/ connectors and is hanging around which tends to come out ( I guess PO must have pulled it out in order to flex the wires to raise the handlebar). Would like to see how it is secured to frame. I did some search and noticed a cable tie holding it, but not sure how it is secured.
Appreciate any help.

Re: 1977 GL1000 New addition, working now
On my 75, the PO removed the vetter and I had the same situation as you. My rubber shield was even missing. I looked at a bunch of pictures on line like you to see its original positioning. From what I could tell
It was attached very close to main triple tree tube. The big one. And tied also.
So I just taped mine up tight and tucked it close to main tube. It was not perfect, but cleared the fake
gas tank door.

Re: 1977 GL1000 New addition, working now
got it done, there is a special metal (rubber coated) tie that has one end with eyelet to bot through on the ignition coil mounting bolt. Got to make one such tie and job completed. Now next is to drop the exhaust, put new copper gaskets in headers (as smoke leaks) and paint the mufflers. Any thoughts on painting mufflers?

Re: 1977 GL1000 New addition, working now
I used the VHT high temp flat black exhaust paint and then the VHT satin high temp clear coat from them too. The muffler came out close to stock in the finish. I used only the flat black finish on the headers though after the clear didn't handle the heat initially, so I stripped and repainted the headers with just the flat VHT paint and no issues.
Others have used the BBQ flat black finish with good results and much cheaper than the VHT paint.

Re: 1977 GL1000 New addition, working now
Thanks everyone,
Cold and snow, wrong time to even consider painting. Hands were itchy not doing anything, found (by chance) a 1976 LTD, brought it home. Piecer of xyz but working on it with high hopes. Grease from my elbows is getting on to bike drop by drop
Paint all oxidized and clear/ lacqure is crusty and has web cracks, will be trying wet sanding and compound. decals are fadded and broken on top would like to avoid painting and turning it in to a running survivor.
Will start a new thread and update you guys, seeking help as usual and thank you for usual guides.
