Won't Stick!
Maybe someone knows what glue will definitely work. The "GoldWing/GL1000" emblem has been very loose on diferent occasions, and a couple of times has almost been lost. The 3 tabs on the backside of the emblem, that are designed to protrude through the side cover, and be fastened with clips, are now broken off.
I've tried gluing it in place with varying degrees of success, but nothing seems to last. I don't mind simply gluing it in place, but I can't seem to find a glue that'll stick permanently.
Does anyone, possibly doing restorastions, have any suggestions?
Thanks.......................Dave PS...I took the photo shortly after fixing it the last time. Today, three weeks later, It was barely hanging, and would have very shortly been lost.

I used 3M 77 spray adhesive. Get it all lined-up first and lay down some masking tape on your sidecover as a guide to where to place it... once it's stuck, it's stuck. If you mess up and smudge glue everywhere, you can use Goof Off to clean up the residue.

Re: Won't Stick!
Any auto parts store sells a 'tape' for attaching emblems and body moulding. It is kind of thick though, and will cause the emblem to stand off the surface a smidge. It does stick well!

Used clear silicon too and never had any issues with the emblem letting go afterwards.

Re: Won't Stick!
That's excellent everybody. That give s me 3 good possibilities to choose from.
I see this one. I looks like a pretty straight forward, no-mess alternative. What do you think?

Re: Won't Stick!
Ran into the same situation when I repainted my 83 interstate and went to put all the emblems back on, the tabs were broken just enough to where they would still go into the holes they were supposed to and align themselves like they should but not long enough to put a clip back on. I used this trim adhesive tape instead .... and it sticks good, so good that you better get your emblem positioned right the first time because it's a bear to get off. Most auto part store will have it in stock. https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/company-us/ ... 071&rt=rudSolina Dave wrote:Maybe someone knows what glue will definitely work. Re: Won't Stick!
I actually repaired my emblems using 3mm flat head allens and a super strong hot glue. Basically took side cutters and cut off what was left of the plastic pin. Then took a dremel with a diamond blade and cut a big X in the head of the allen, something for the glue to grab onto. Then hot glued them in place where the old pin was. Then just mounted them up with a 3mm nyloc nut. Worked great.

Re: Won't Stick!
I've used that 3M double sided tape on numerous emblems. Never had one fall off.

Re: Won't Stick!
I always swear by Aroldite, two part 'glue' or you can use the 'tape' that sticks new number plates on, but that is quite thick.
Previous Rides,
1980 CB250N Good to learn on
1981 CX500 good mid range tourer, went to Austria on it!
1983 GL1100C Pride and joy, sold when I bought my 1st house, big mistake
1985 GL650 Silverwing another mistake, horrible bike
1986 CBX550 Good commuter
1989 Suzuki GS750 (1976) cheap and cheerful until a dog ran out in front of me on Xmas Eve, 1991
Current bikes
2010 CB1300 back on a bike after 19 years, two divorces, children grown up etc
1980 GL1100 NOW ON THE ROAD, still use CB1300.

Re: Won't Stick!
Thanks again for your suggestions. True to form I took the chicken way out, and went with the silicone adhesive. It was readily available, cheap, easy to apply, and seems quite sticky. It's clamped and curing now for 24 hours before going back on the bike. If it works as advertised, it should be good.
It might just be me, but the spray adhesive seemed too messy, the tape maybe too thick, the two part glue would give me twice the chance to screw it up, and the screw job was too much work.
I guess if it doesn't work, I'll have to go to plan "B".
Thanks again, Dave

Re: Won't Stick!
Most emblems (at least the ones I've messed with) had recesses of some sorts in the back and that's where I would put the tape so the thickness of the tape wouldn't affect how flush the emblems would set at least not enough to notice. Others have already given alternatives so you have plenty of methods to choose from besides the dbl sided tape.
