I said they were nice looking, I did not say I thought they were effective.
Some people just like bling I guess. Prefer stock setup.

Track T 2411 wrote:I'll start with the fan, because that's an easy one, lol! Pull the plug off the thermo switch (on the side of the thermostat housing) and jump the wires with the ignition switch on. The fan should run. If it doesn't, it is most likely the fan motor (or bad wires). If it runs, you will need to investigate more. The thermo switch is notorious for failing, BTW. Typically, the fan should kick on after several minutes with the engine running/idling, and cycle on and off.
I jumped the connection and the fan kicked on. The bottom connection was very corroded so I'm hoping that was it. But, if the thermo switch needs to be cleaned, can that be done without pulling the radiator?

You should be able to remove the switch with a deep well socket. You will have to drain at least some of the coolant.

Re: 77 GL1000 - 3 questions
Got the thermo switch off with 27mm socket. I just ordered a new one. I read a tutorial about taking them apart and cleaning but I can't find my needle nose vice grips. I must have lent them to a buddy. Anyway, I found replacement on eBay. Should be here tue or Wednesday.

Re: 77 GL1000 - 3 questions
The fan did work when i jumped the connection at the thermo switch. I pulled the TS and did try to separate it but that was a no go. I ordered a new one from ebay ($22) and that fixed the problem. The TS was removed with a 27mm socket (mine was not a deep socket) and a wobble extension. Getting the new one back on was not easy. I tried with my fingers but couldn't get it to go (size XL hands). I tried with the socket but it wasn't able to ling up straight. I ended up using a half in tubing and then it threaded right on.

+1 - and beats the heck out of pulling the radiator for such a "simple" task.
