CBR 600 Rectifier fitted and working!

#1

Post by chewy999 »

Following on from my thread 'https://www.ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=63432',
I have fitted the GENUINE CBR 600 Rectifier and it works! action1 action1 action1

What I also like is the fact it doesn't get hot and didn't get above 14.9 volts, so hopefully be able to get out on the bike with Karen.

Here is a picture of it fitted.

AWesome! Glad you got it working.

That rectifier is much better than stock in terms of charging capacity @ Idle. It's a nice upgrade :)

Well good....but 14.9 seems a tad high doesn't it? I figure 14.3 to be the optimum....but what do I know.

Aw don't say that.

I've just got to get an M.O.T. on Wednesday so will check again when it's been for a run, don't know how but it may help. The voltage did drop to about 14.6V if I turned the headlight on, so very close to being ok, at least it's not 16+V anymore. May have to try another battery, but don't want to spend more if not necessary.

Just checked the manual and the charging rate should be between 14V and 15V, so I am within the specs, albeit towards the upper limit. action1 action1 action1

As always, thanks to everyone who has kept (awake) with me on this thread and my other one!

I've been there with GW problems as a newbie myself. Glad to know you have it all working.
Now go take Karen for a ride.

Mine peaks in the high 14 volts as well but spends most of its time in the mid 14's when revs come up, even at high 14's it's still better than the mid to high 15's it had before. Just curious but does that CBR600 reg/rec do away with that black sense wire?

Yes it does. I'm pretty sure that was where the problem was with the original style rectifier. I changed the ignition switch, but there are other routes the black (sense) wire went to, but all my cables are in pretty rough shape. When I cut back to make a new connection, I never find shiny copper cable.
The CBR rectifier works in a different way, don't ask me how, but you don't need the sense wire, but anyone with the idea of fitting one needs to make sure they get the genuine item and not a Chinese copy off Fleabay, like I did!
I also replaced the wiring from the rectifier to the battery, including a new earth to the battery negative post.

Although mine is working now and I really shouldn't mess with something if it isn't broke I like the benefits the more modern reg/rec has over my current one. I don't plan on doing the swap right away but will plan on it in the future. Thanks for the info.

That's my philosophy normally, but I noticed something was up when the three yellow wires started to smoke, and they felt very hot.

I have done some research for a good "Mosfet" CBR 600 R/R. Rick's Motorsport Electric's https://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/
has the 10-101H (Hot Shot) which should be high quality for the price. Has anyone bought this unit?
