Better Horn ?
Is there a louder horn I could mount on my 75' Wing in the stock location ? Reason I asked this is that I just received a Fiamm Freeway Blaster Low Note Horn # 72112 I was originally going to mount on my 77' KZ1000. But the stock horn on the KZ ( rated at 105 db. ) was definitely louder than the Fiamm horn which is rated at 130 db's. So very disappointed with the Fiamm's performance. In fact comparing the stock Wing's horn with the Fiamm, I couldn't tell much of a difference.
I don't want to mount an air horn and I would like the aftermarket horn in the stock location so dimension of a louder horn would have to be similar to the stock one in order to fit in the Wing's horn location.
*** I forgot to ask *** Is the stock horn adjustable for noise output ?

Re: Better Horn ?
The adjustment is not for intensity but used for tweaking/finetuning the operation of the points and coil inside to maximize the operation. Some have found adjusting it to help, I have not. I have not had much luck with the newer Fiamm stuff either,

Not stock appearance but not stock performance either! I have one on my road bike and like it very much. If you do decide to go this way make sure to protect the push button with a relay.

Re: Better Horn ?
Whiskerfish, Is this the Horn from Harbor Freight priced at $39.99 ? Do you have any other pictures of the horn mounted on your bike ? I've looked at other sites where they use a 4-pin relay and how they hook it up but wouldn't mind having a little more info. on this with what relay to use and also what fuse size. Any help there ?

You would be happy with that horn (the Wolo Bad Boy). I have the chrome version on my Valkyrie. It makes a joyful noise.

Re: Better Horn ?
I used a Hella Sharptone on my '78. They mounted perfectly where the stock horns went, one on each side. There are two horns in a set, a low and a high tone.

Re: Better Horn ?
You might be surprised how much difference in volume there is by simply adding a relay. Those are cheap, I would start there. You'll need it anyway with any of the higher current horns.

Re: Better Horn ?
Whiskerfish, when mounting the horn on the engine mounting plate, would you have to support the engine when removing the upper bolt ?
Also, I saw in an older Post, that Sandy had this horn mounted to what appeared to be a separate plate that the horn mounted too, then bolting this plate to the original 2-hole mount that the stock horn mounted too ? I couldn't tell how from the pictures ?

Re: Better Horn ?
And once when you remove that upper bolt, that black triangular plate will swing out to allow room to drill a hole straight thru? I'm assuming swinging that plate out would give you more clearance to drill without hitting anything ?

Re: Better Horn ?
I mounted mine to the actual heat shield. Had to remove it to drill the hole. It is a bit of a job, but the horn is hidden inside the frame. Others have made up adapter plates and used the stock horn location Tab to mount to.

Re: Better Horn ?
I have a Stebil Nautilus for 10 years now. I mounted it on the right side of my '82 1100 Standard by modifying an original horn mounting bracket. As for the relay, yeah, gotta use it! The power wire for mine is fuse and direct to the battery. When I measured the amperage draw for holding the button for 6 seconds, it averaged 25 amps.
