jiffy switch GL1000

#1

Post by wetering »

Just wondering whether there are forum members who have installed a jiffy switch on their GL1000? I am looking for an elegant and fast solution if possible .....

Thanks in advance for your suggestions ;-)

I so need to do one. I did the drive off with it down this Morning two right turns then the terrifying left that announced my stupidity. so mad at my self and so grateful that it did not end badly with anything more than soiled shorts and an insane heart rate. lucky still in my neighborhood and going slowly.

The wiring on a 1500 shuts the engine down if you put the stand down while the engine is running won't even start if in gear and the stand is down. plus idiot light..maybe check out the wiring for a 1500???

One of the first things we were taught on our motorcycle safety course is after you do your walk around and get on the bike..you start your pre start check on the bottom left of the bike. Kickstand up, ignition switch on (if located there), gas on, clutch in, kill switch off, press start button.
I am anal about doing this every time..so far so good.

Nothing will create an "Aw shucks" moment more than taking a left off the exit of the freeway and striking a downed kickstand. A kickstand that has been down since you left home 25 miles ago! I did that once on the way to work. All right handers until getting off the freeway. No crash, but when the realization of what had just happened hit, I had to go check my drawers ...

Kickstand is what put Roady down a couple of years ago.

crying1 First year I had my 77 I installed a bracket holding a car-door light switch (do they still have them?) so the kickstand will hit it when it is up, when it is down the switch turns on a radio shack buzzer as soon as the key is on. I'd rather not remember the reason for doing it. (windshield, fairing, bags, forks, bluejeans....)
i finally made it past the junkyard dogs!!

I used a subaru door switch. Works nicely but requires some welding/fabricating and positioning the thing was quite an ordeal.

I realized the following solution: a reed switch (NO: side stand up closed, side-stand down open) switches on two buzzers by means of a relay (terminal 87a). Straight forward, easy made. This is of course only a solution and not the solution. Alternatively you could use the horn, in that case the relay should switch to earth. Or use a NC reed relay, if available.
