Engine oil leaking at final drive

#1

Post by JOLLY »

where would the seal be that would allow oil to leak where the final drive meets the swing arm? It would seam more likely that it would leak at the boot, at the back of the engine. What would case this to happen? :(
I have done so much with so little for so long, I think I could do anything with nothing at all, in no time flat. My best friend Buddy (my service dog) loves to ride as much as I do.!!! I would hope everyone would use a product called (Ride On) sealant & Balancer, in their tires, because it has saved my life.

That would be on the actual drive shaft and the coupler on the final drive. There are two seals there, could be ether one. But they are not re useable...replace them both...leak will stop

I looking in the book on page 336 oil seal #31 and page 338 oil seal #14. Are these the seals you are talking about?

Don't have a picture in front of me, but if you pull the final drive, one seal goes on the actual drive shaft, and the other is in the coupler that comes out with the final drive. The connector has to be removed,(its attached to the final drive) When you get it off, you will see how it works. Still available from Honda

How does engine oil get down that for and not leak in other places?

Thanks for the part numbers. Can you recommend a place to order them?

Its not leaking final drive oil, its engine oil. I don't understand how that is happening.

Are these oil seals you are talking about for the final drive oil, or do they stop engine oil??????

If its engine oil it has to be the seal on the output shaft of the engine. Probably easier to remove the swing arm then the engine. I get mine from the local Honda deler. Only a few blocks from me

OK I will. I'm going to wash it real good and trace the leak. Thank You, I'll let you know. I had installed a new Shinko back tire and putting the front on when the new fork seals come in.

CYBORG, It is engine oil for sure. It's not so bad it would keep me from riding. I just hate oil leaks. Do you know of anything that might swell up the seal that may help it.?? Surely they make something that would slow it down. BUT WHAT??????

It must be this seal and looks to be replaceable without pulling the motor.

Probably loosen swingarm and allow it to move back enough to remove and replace. I use a ratchet strap from the upper crossframe brace to the swingarm by the tire to keep the swingarm from falling and assist rolling it back in place. My Frankenstein bike had enough slack in wires and brake lines to allow this.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
