Bent handlebars

Post by Dirty Dave »

My Buddy did a face plant with his 76 Wing last week, wearing a full face helmet thank (insert favorite deity here).

Bars are bent on one side and I was wondering if coaxing them back into the proper position with a propane torch and a bit of muscle would work. A little discoloration of the chrome would be acceptable.

Anytime you bend metal without thoroughly heating it the end product will be weaker than the original. I have done it years ago but I would think they are pretty cheap on Flea Bay and such. I know they are a pain to swap out but the security would be worth it in my mind.

Thanks for the advice. The labor would be the same as the bars would need to come off to heat. I have a new pair lined up. I'm afraid my friend might be calling it quits as far as riding goes. He was talking about parting out the bike but I will make sure that doesn't happen even if I buy it myself. Made some good progress last night. I knew I'd have use for all of the spare parts I scored on eBay over the years.
