Re: SO, I changed my plugs/wires/boots
I'm pretty sure that rubber cover was more cosmetic than functional. It doesn't fit well enough to actually seal anything. Also I found it a pain to deal with when just trying to pull the caps off to get at the spark plugs. That being said I wouldn't remove it if it were in good shape. Just my opinion.

Re: SO, I changed my plugs/wires/boots
About the only good thing I can see with the big cover is that it keeps debris out of the spark plug wells. I always just blow them out with air and/or PB Blaster, and make sure the drain holes are open, and forget about using the cover. My 2 cents...

Re: SO, I changed my plugs/wires/boots
The rubber covers on mine are in great shape so I reused them. If they stop one little pebble or some sand from getting in there, they're worth the trouble in my opinion.
On a positive note, My bike has never run so well. Smooth and great throttle response now.
Oh, and I gained 4mpg.

Re: SO, I changed my plugs/wires/boots
Back in '08, I replaced my wires with these grey Dyna wires that I got from Crescent Moon Cycles way back then. They work terrific and I have never had an issue riding through serious rain storms like I did with the original wires.
