Plumbing dribble
so i replaced the plumbing seals but i get a SLOW and not much leak from the circled area (which has a gasket in there.
what im asking is i dont want to drain the fluid all again and remove it to see if thats it. is there something i can rub around the area to clog up the tiny tiny leak?

Re: Plumming dribble
Likely The leak is coming from the inside so most things you put on the outside are temporary at best and the leak will return . Best is to verify and be 100% sure of the point of leakage and fix it correctly. And to try over tightening of the bolts is also a bad idea. Sorry!

Re: Plumming dribble
Check to confirm it's not leaking out of the end of the upper radiator hose. Those clamps have to be super tight -- tighter than I thought they needed to be -- or you will get a dribble. Also, if I remember correctly I smeared a little vaseline on the o-ring seal when I put it together, to prevent it sticking.

Re: Plumming dribble
If you are going to use a lubricant on rubber you should use rubber grease because general purpose grease breaks down rubber.
On the chemistry periodic table elements are named in latin typically. Lead is called Plumbum, hence plumbing used to use lead pipe. So what you have is a Plumbing leak or dribble. Good luck with your problem, I sincerely hope it works out.

I'll try the clamps. Then report back!Steve81GL1100 wrote:Check to confirm it's not leaking out of the end of the upper radiator hose. Re: Plumming dribble
I found the culprit. After draining and semi removing the plumbing. The new oring I bought from Honda may be the issue? The old oring was corroded and gummed up. Is there anything I can put in with that oring to help seal better. To my eyes the surface looks clean. It did seem a little loose on the sleeve it sits on. I'm not sure :/ 2 steps forward one back. Bummed out.

A little RTV on the o-ring prior to assembly might not hurt.deathbypizza wrote:Reseated the oring and put in the coolant. Still a leak. Bummer

Re: Plumming dribble
Are you sure that it is leaking from that O ring. I was chasing a leak that left a puddle in the same spot and it was coming from the small temp sensor O ring that is on the right hand side of the thermostat housing. You look to have some different style of sensor in there from the back side picture I can see.
It took me awhile to figure it out after removing the housing like you have done and using some Permatex gasket sealer specific for anti freeze on that O ring. When it still leaked I had the bike mostly still assembled, so it was hard to see the temp sensor properly, yet with a mirror I was able to determine the leak was from the temp sensor and not the thermostat housing.
If it is leaking just under the static pressure of the cooling system, once you fire it up and get pressure built there will be more than a little puddle. You do need to find and fix the issue correctly; not with a band aid solution as you have proposed.

May I ask why?CYBORG wrote:rtv?.....never
There are very few places that I would ever use RTV on a motorcycle, but this is certainly one of them. I'm not talking about a lot, just a barely visible coating on both sides to seal any surface imperfections.
I've had to use some RTV on similar things before and have never had issues.

Re: Plumming dribble
I have a large tube of adhesive RTV that stated on the tube "do not use on engines". I have taken engine parts, including cooling system parts, that were sealed with RTV and leaked. And the sealant peeled of in one piece like a string of silly putty. Its sealing properties are compromised by both oil and ani-freeze.
