Neutral switch wire issue

#1

Post by deathbypizza »

So I have the common soft green hard green when in N Issue. I seemed to have found the issue. A frayed/melted section of the wire. I'm just wondering if I cut said section and Putnam in a new bit of wire and such will that be fine?

Thanks.

Maybe it could be just grounding?
Am I able to just tape it over.

The wire to the switch is a complete-the-ground switch. The hot goes to the light. Most feel that the contact points collect enough carbon on them to partially complete the ground through the oil. When you hit neutral you get the complete ground and get a brighter light. Some have had temporarily cured it by using a 12v source to burn the carbon off the switch. They run a hot wire from battery or other source right to the ground wire. Leave it more than few seconds and it'll get very hot, so just short bursts. For most it's just temporary. I just live with it. My neutral is rolling the bike a little.

Yes I know about this. But as stated the wire is frayed or cut a little. Am I able to cut out the bad section and rewire to even taping it over as perhaps the wire was grounding off the motor itself?

You could do either. Taping it up would only be a temporary fix, IMhO. At least it would tell you if that is the problem. If it is, then I would go back and do a permanent fix, i.e. splice, solder, and shrink tube it. My 2 cents.
