Emgo Ignition Switch Repair

The plastic backing/connector retainer on my ignition switch broke. Instead of buying a new switch (with non-matching keys) I bought the repair kit. It is resisting my efforts to install it into the keylock. Has anyone had a similar problem? Did you solve it? Seems very straightforward. Don't want to break the new plastic.

I tried once and couldn't do it either. Ended up breaking the tabs rendering it useless. Ended up getting a Honda switch. Roncar has an excellent write-up to re-key a lock. He can also replace missing keys as well.

One possibility, that is not in the GL1000 or GL1100 manuals but in the 'Honda Common Service Manual', is to have the switch in the position between ON and OFF to remove and install the contact base. That is the ACC position for switches that have an ACC position.

Excellent information Roncar. You were spot on with that - I put the switch into the ACC position, and was able to snap the contact base in without issue. Terribly frustrating when people sell stuff, but don't bother to tell you key bits of information like this that isn't easily found elsewhere. Thanks again!

It does make sense to have to use the key to connect/disconnect the plug. It makes it a bit more difficult to hot wire...
