Electric fuel pump

#1

Post by Chickadee66 »

I had to replace mine and fitted one of those after market ones from on the E Bay with the blue power cord cover. It ran without trouble for a trip of 875 k's and just stopped. When I touched the pump it was very hot. Tried turning key on/off to no avail. Any clues out there on the cause? Will a bad fuel pump relay cause this? My bike is carby 1985 GL1200

If its very hot, it most likely burned out. Don't use cheap Chinese parts, they end up being expensive. If the pump relay is stuck "on", then power will be continuously fed to the pump - possibly to the point of burning out.

I'd have to agree, a friend who was on a budget put a cheap ebay electric fuel pump on his 1200 and I'm not sure if he got 1,000 miles out of it before it quit.

I bought one of these at oreillys for fifty bucks and added a regulator to get it down to 2 something on the dial. It's in my wife's BMW 2002 car. Been in there five years so far. Don't know if it's Chinese though.
