I found a few more bits of the scavenge oil pump housing. I also found a few more bits of the disintegrated clutch plate.

I cleaned as much of the debris as I could from inside the housing and removed the scavenge oil pump.
There were a few more bits of the clutch plate lurking inside.

I switched my attention to the front, and removed the front cover.

This sludge you can see is not good. It contains metal particles.

It does seem then that metal bits have passed through the scavenge pump and into the main crankcase.
The crankcase does seem clean inside.
The water pump rotor is quite wobbly too so that will be replaced.

Yummy! (NOT!) I have popped off the side cover (oil pickup screen) and sprayed out the gunk with brake cleaner...

Liam, I hope you are splitting it right down. There are a miriad places inside the webs in those cases that can harbour more of that sludge.

Yes John I am going to split it right down. I have spent about an hour each evening so far for the last 3 evenings.
First evening I took off the rear cover and took out the old scavenge pump.
Then I took the front cover off and took out the main oil pump and shaft.
The second evening I took off the timing belts and both cylinder heads.
There are carbon deposits on all piston crowns and in the heads which I was expecting as I had been running on a set of
1100 carbs before this clutch episode happened.
Last evening I took off the starter motor and the Alternator rotor and starter drive chain.
I am taking lots of pictures as I go along to help me in the reassembly.
I am taking notes of all the bolts too making sketches and noting all the bolt sizes.
I am doing this because quite a few of the bolts have been replaced with gold headed dome bolts,
I want to replace these with originals or at least the same type as the originals. Every bolt on this engine is chrome plated.
Tonight if all goes well I will split the cases. Fingers crossed. I will put up a few pictures later today .

Work got in the way the past while, so only got round to splitting the casings today.
I spent a lot of time cleaning the outside and figuring out how it all came apart.
