Need some help with my new Dyna Ignition

#1

Post by overboostin »

77 GL1000, 50k miles, had an issue where it would start up and idle great, but then not hold and idle and die when the bike was up to temp. Had an ancient dyna ignition system so I tossed it all. I hooked the new ignition system to the new green dyna coils I bought with no ballast resistor and spliced the power wire in to the turn signal relay. When it cranks it'll have nice spark on all cylinders. When I go to crank it it'll sputter and then die as soon as I release the starter button. Any ideas? Think it's a timing issue or something with how I hooked it up? Any guidance on setting the timing would be much appreciated as well.

You ditched the ballast. Did you then connect the wires that ran to it? They need to be wired together to work.

I don't believe so. Just connect them together?

Yes, follow the wiring for the ballast. If I remember correctly you can just plug it in using the stock wiring. No splicing or connectors to add.
