Battery Acid And Chrome

#1

Post by 81Winger »

The previous owner of my 81 GL1100, spilled some battery acid on the left pipe whilst doing a swap...been years but there is some funny stains left behind that I would love to get rid of on a budget...Any advice beyond taking to a chrome repair/respray service shop?

Thanks! :-D

I used the same technique as in polishing aluminum and while the stains are still there, they are a lot less noticeable on my 1200I exhaust. It took some work since I was unwilling to pull the pipes off the bike. Can't quite get to the bike right now to show the progress.

Mask the area off and sand it good. Then use high temp, like outdoor grill paint, to make a stripe. Carry that over to the other side and just like that you have a custom exhaust!

Problem was, at least on my 78, the drain tube is right above the left muffler.
