sounds like a really good deal to me. The new brushes are $30 alone. Not sure on the bushing but I don't think I'd rebuild one for $60. Although once out of the bike and on the bench it doesn't take long at all.. Maybe like 20 or 30 minutes to clean everything and put it back together.

Don't make the mistake of trying sub standard brushes without knowing the requirements. There are different blends of copper, graphite and carbon and each has its merit. For kicks and because I am cheap at times I tried hardware store carbon brushes in a lawn tractor starter and it worked great for two cuttings before it damaged the commutator beyond repair and I needed a new one instead of spending the $22 a set from the manufacture.

Didnt rebuild it yet, but I did take it apart and clean it well. Had lots of carbon dust inside and I cleaned the armature. Put a smear of grease in the bushings as well. Rode it and got it good and hot and shut it off and tried to restart it. The dragging didnt happen this time like it was doing before..hope it holds off till next spring.

That sounds like a positive fix to me... I imagine the battery is fully charged after a ride and you have also disturbed most battery and electrical connections related to starter... With the battery fully charged and all terminals cleaned it is an absolute joy to hit the button for an instant start...

IMO, Give it 7-10 day when the lead acid battery has "gone off" peak power (even new) you will likely hear the "drag" once again... If you can keep a "solar/trickle charger" fitted to a lead acid battery most starting problems will be resolved..

Humidity and cold temp also affect starting ease... They have for me in the past!!!

Battery is new this spring, the terminals were cleaned, the charging at the battery shows a good 14.1, the starter had a lot of carbon dust in uit when i opened it, and the armature was dirty..that bronze colored glaze on it. After riding it BEFORE I cleaned it , the starter always seemed to drag a bit before catching a good crank. That seems to be gone now. It always cranked great when cold engine and acted up aferwards. Thats what prompted me to take a gander at it.
