I am a bit concerned if I butcher the metal heat shield that deflects the radiator heated air around the carbs I could then run into the Vapor lock and fuel issues some have. I installed a new Honda stock stator a couple years ago and it works very well but I have been thinking about more cold weather riding and a few electric heated accessories could really make a difference there. It is about 50 miles each way to work. I even considered a pair of 12 volt batteries to run the accessories but then recharging them would be inconvenient.
I guess the truth is that I want everything for very little effort or cost and that does not seem to be working well.
Not sure about the vapor lock being an issue. The 1200 does use an electric fuel pump.

I remove the heat shield on all my bikes, and have never had a carb issue. Warm weather, hot weather, or cold weather. A little more heat in the summer, as stated. But a little warm air in the winter.

I'm going to be pulling all the Vetter stuff off soon, to be able to work on everything, and I'll probably be keeping it off for a little while so that I can get used to riding a big bike again. I sure do miss riding!
Here is a pic of her on a little road trip just after I bought her. This is her best side since she was missing the battery cover.
you might start a thread to specifically document it. Just my humble opinion (Okay I am not humble, but I am opinionated) The tech forum will be seen by more peole during the actual thread, vs the resto or cuztom
