lost my spark......... AGAIN!!!

#1

Post by pugetsoundsailer »

I had NO spark then I replaced the CDI on this 84 interstate and got good strong spark to all 4 cylinders, I finally got it ready to fire up and it was getting spark at first then, it got weak then I lost it again................, I'm bring this back to life after a 10 year sit so the carbs are ruff and the electrical plugs a touchy, the main one going into the fuse box was intermittent but now seems ok. Any ideas boys before I tear off the rear end and replace the igniters??? :flamer

Ok seems I read that them igniters go out when they get hot then come back on when they cool.
After it sat for awhile it finally fired up for a second then died again. But it's not getting very hot, it was running for about 10 seconds.

Might need look for bad connections creating a voltage drop somewhere because there are two separate trigger coils in the rear cover and it seems that for both to fail at the same time would be unusual. I believe there are resistance checks that you could do cold and again hot to see if it is drastically different. I can check my manual and get back to you if you need specs.
