Sounds like carb issue to me as well. Swap the 1 and 2 plug wires and see if the problem with #2 follows to the other side. If not, I would look into the carbs. Probably a blocked idle circuit. You said it wont idle without pulling the choke out. That is usually an indication of an idle circuit issue.

Good luck and let us know what you find.

Gonna do a coil conversion using GL1500 coils. Will not have to use a ballast resistor and will have a spare coil and wires. Bought it on eBay for $32 delivered. I'll have to do a little mod on the mount and would be necessary to cut a little of the air cleaner housing air horn which I have already done anyhow.

OOPS I ALREADY SAID THIS STATEMENT AND CAN'T DELETE IT!

Ok, so my coils came in this evening, TEK MP08's, and it's raining outside so I thought I'd do a little schematic theory on how these coils should be wired. Would like feedback from those who have done this mod or expertise knowledge of it. This is how I read the schematic:

Coil Feeding #1/2 plugs………..Blk-Wht Stripe to Start/Stop Sw. and Yel on other pin

Coil Feeding #3/4 plugs………. Blk-Wht Stripe to Start/Stop Sw. and Blk-Yel Stripe on other pin

"IF" Ballast Resistor not needed then the Blk & Brn wires would be spliced together. Was wondering if the ballast resistor "could" be used just the same for circuit protection.

Yes they may help. My schematic doesn't indicate a "Blue" wire although I do seem to remember one when I R&R the coils last week. With my electronic ignition will I need to keep the ballast resistor or not. (If you know?) Think I'll try it "with" and see how she runs.

I think your mp08 coils have a green terminal, which is for the colored wires. The blk/wt goes on the other. If you still have points, you should keep the resistor to extend the life of the points. The MP08 are around 3ohm coils. I think, don't hold me to it, that the early bikes ran around 5 ohms resistance.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

No points, no points, no points! Was converted long time ago to electronic ignition. Everyone forget the points cause they are long gone. Gonna pull the cover and see what brand they are and take a pic.

No blue wire I think. It is called B/Y in the manual. My guess is that is yellow with a blue stripe.

In Honda speak B/Y would be black w/yellow stripe. For Blue Honda uses L.
