GL1000 Rear Caliper Piston Removal Made Easy - New Video!

#1

Post by tomk1960 »

Here's my newest instructional video which features the technique I use for removing the two pistons found in GL1000 and SOHC 750F rear calipers. I know that some people have good luck using compressed air to get them out, but it seems like most of the ones I see are corroded and the pistons are STUCK! This method works quickly and effectively and doesn't require much in the way of tools.

As usual, this was shot and edited by my son-in-law Jordan, and features new blues guitar music by my son Joey.

I hope you find this helpful and informative.

P.S. Check this other new video I just posted on how to remove and replace the sight glasses found on many brake and clutch master cylinders.

Great job as usual! That didn't happen to be my rear caliper, was it? :-D

Hey Nate - it could have been yours if it was in my shop when we shot the video, but no, it wasn't. I was preparing to rebuild my rear brake system at the same time, so I had the perfect candidate.

Nice vid Tom !
I stumbled upon the same method when I rebuilt my brakes, worked great. I ended up getting 3 of the 4 pistons out this way, used compressed air on the 4th - probably the one in the small piece of the rear caliper, I didn't think of the rubber piece to block off the brake fluid passage to that piston like you showed.
Nulla futuit datum...

Neither did I! If I remember correctly I just blocked the transfer port with a c-clamp, leaving the o-ring in place. Your method seems easier!
