Clutch lever cover

#1

Post by spiralout »

Anyone have any tips on getting the clutch lever cover off while still in the bike? I have it unbolted already but cant seem to get it off. This is a 1000 in an 1100 frame so I have a good bit of room to get to it, I just dont want to take any chances damaging the seal.
(pic stolen from RR's thread cause his engine is cleaner than mine)

If you have the two bolts out, it should just pop off. Someone may have put silicone or some other substance on it.

Are you talking about the two bolt dust cover or the multi bolt clutch cover underneath that? The dust cover should just pop off reference the last post. the other cover underneath has two posts among the many bolts. you will have to slip the cover over the posts after removing the nuts.

It was the dust cover I was having trouble getting off. Turns out someone had smeared some kind of sealant that looks like black silicone on both sides of the oring/seal. I ended up having to use a razor knife blade to get under the edge of the cover, then gently working my way around it. Got it off with no damage to the seal though!
