Painting Tip

#1

Post by bluec10 »

]I'm painting my GW and my son is building a retro road bike. He came up with a really good idea for plugging threaded holes. He found a box of ear plugs in the garage. When you roll them up really tight they are easy to fit and they expand to fit whatever space they are in. Great idea!

Simple!
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Thanks so much for sharing that. I have my next paint job coming up soon and I found threading old bolts in the holes wrapped in tape a pain. Did the foam ear plugs react with any of the paint chemicals?

Wow that is a great idea! I wonder if that would work for powder coating?

The lady I have powder coat the bigger things uses ear plug like material for threaded holes. They are obviously not ear plugs, but are conical shaped, and are soft like ear plugs. They would probably work! :)

Silicone plugs and caps are used. I don't think the ear plugs would hold up to the 400degree temp.

But great idea for painting action1
Great to keep these old 'Wings flying on down the road.

action1 This falls under the "Dang, why didn't I think of that" category....

I'm with roady - simple solutions are usually superior....

i work in an O.R. and save all the little blue "nipples" that i pull out of iv bags before i spike them,, and keep them in my locker at work , when i have jar full , i bring em home and throw em in the garage and use them exactly like you do, they roll up nice and tight and slip them into any threaded hole and presto no threads to chase... np
