Electric fuel pump

#1

Post by Gator417 »

I've decided to do the electric conversion on Nora. Just have a few concerns to work through before she goes under the knife again. What is necessary to keep the pump from pushing too much fuel into the bowls? I purchased a pump which flows 2.5-3.5psi and 35gpm. Does it need some sort of switch to shut it off when the right pressure is reached, or a bypass of some sort? Have never dealt with carburation before and I'm just a little skiddish, especially since every extra day I spend working on this bike means a day I don't get to ride. I've read through tons of posts about these pumps and they all talk about a cut-off of some sort in case of an accident, mounting issues etc, but I haven't seen this addressed.
Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone.

Nothing extra needed. You are a tad high at the 3.5 lbs but it should be alright.

Some have used a tip-over switch. Most are adapted from other bikes.

This guy. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detai ... &ppt=C0025 Its a little bulky, but I should be able to hide it fairly well, especially since it is black. For those of you wondering, I did, in fact, consider spraying it with Line-X, but its plastic and I'm not sure what the heat would do to it. Off topic: Is there a best place to buy batteries for these bikes? The Honda shop is wearing me out wanting $80 for a new one. I know I can do better than that.
Thanks again gents.

+1 on that. $80 and no shipping? Grab it. I paid close to $100 for a Big Crank. You get what you pay for.

Mister Gasket doesn't sound confidence inspiring but I used the exact same unit to replace the fuel pump in my GL1200. It required a couple of fittings to enable me locate where the original electric pump had been but with only a little bit of work with a round file it fit in bolted into the original holes. Works fine. You won't hear it come on until you engage the starter.

I have used Mr.Gasket products since I started racing cars in the early 70's....shifters, fuel pumps, spacers, etc. never an issue or any problems. Buy with confidence and ride on.

To one, a minute is as an hour, to another a lifetime is but a moment, carried away on a wisp of air. I do like them to run on the rich side, but that's still a bit much. Nice catch. Its also supposed to be 42 gph, so I screwed that part up nicely. That's why we have the url feature here on the forum.
Dave, what type or regulator did you use? I've only seen vacuum controlled fpr's in automotive applications.
