Timing belts

#1

Post by Mike Stenseth »

Has anybody bought timing belts from Saber Cycle for their GL1000? They are running them on sale, I would like to change mine and looking for feedback. Their price is $36.99 for a pair. Not sure what brand they sell, I think they are supplied from venders from the east. Mike

Probably fine, but there is a lot at stake, not to mention the work involved. Gates are usually only a few dollars more.
Bikes at present:

83 XL 600r with a 2004 XR650L engine
And a slightly worse for the wear BMW GS adventure bike awaiting repair
83 GL in process :IDTS:

Check with one of our sponsors, Cascade Cycle (link on the home page). He's got the best price and fastest shipping.

+1 On what Roady said. Cascade ships a New2U kit that includes belts, hoses, oil filter, T-stat and correct O rings, correct spark plugs as well. Did I mention fast & the right price?

I get my timing belts via Amazon (gates T274), Under $15 each, and they are at the house the next day (helps to have a distribution center in town :-) )

Thanks for all the input. Leaning towards the Gates T274, but will checkout all the other vendors mentioned. Very much appreciated. I just finished putting on all my new decals for the 76 Wing! On the wife's dining room table.....great work bench!! Turned out pretty darned good. Can't wait to clear all parts, should really pop! Mike

I baught my timing belts from S C for my first bike before I knew about other sources. I haven't had any problems with them but good luck on getting any questions answered from S C they are not what you'd call customer service oriented. that is unless they have changed in the last 3 years.
