Float Level for GL1200
My GL1200 is leaking fuel after a carb rebuild. I am thinking that the floats are either stuck or simply set two high. Does anyone know the proper float height? Also, what reference points to measure for given height? Thanks!

Re: Float Level for GL1200
Where are they leaking from? If around the float bowl then you either have the floats too high or one or more stuck. What is the year and model of your 1200. I think the float level changed from 84 to 85+ but I'm not sure.
With the carb just past vertical you measure from the carb body (where the float bowl mates the carb body) to the top of the float just as it touches the float valve. Roady did a "How to" on setting his on the 1100 but the process is exactly the same. This measurement is critical!
From the factory Service Manual (FSM):
FLOAT LEVEL INSPECTION
With the float valve seated and the float arm just
touching the valve, measure the float valve with the
float level gauge.
Adjust if necessary by bending the float arm carefully.
FLOAT LEVEL: 7.5 mm (0.30 in)

Re: Float Level for GL1200
My GL1200 is a 1984 Standard. I saw reference points you are referring to in my Clymer manual. The missing piece was the 7.5 mm distance as they did not have that information. I do not think that the needles are sticking, so tonight I will ensure that the levels are correct and go from there. THANKS!
