'76 Fork Seal Replacement Walkthrough

#1

Post by cmyoch »

I've found a lot of 1100 fork seal advice but not so much on the earlier 1000's. I built up the confidence to take this on tonight. I'm assuming this also can be done with the forks in the bike, correct? I noticed under the top caps that they are allen heads. So to reiterate the process:

1. Remove front wheel, fender, and tie back the calipers.
2. Drain existing oil.
3. Loosen allen bold at the bottom of the fork.
4. Remove the cap at the top of the fork (being careful to prevent the spring from taking out an eye).
5. Slide up the dust seal.
6. Remove retainer clip above the seal
7. Remove the lower tube
8. RR the seal
9. Assemble and fill with the proper fluid and amount according to the manual.

Am I missing any steps or anything special?
