1975 GL1000 part identification

#1

Post by spiralout »

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I'm in the process of putting back together a 75 that was in pieces when I got it, and can't for the life of me figure out what this bracket is for. I've Google image searched and searched around the site to no avail. I know it's going to end up being something obvious I'm just overlooking, but dang if I know. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

After the GL restorations shown in my signature, I have never seen that part on a 1000.
Hope for the best, expect the worst and take what comes!

Nope, I just finished a 1975 and didn't come across anything like that.

I spent way too long bagging and tagging an LTD. No such animal in my library. I think you're safe putting it back in the box.

It does not ring a bell with me either. A pic of the other side with something to use as a size reference might be helpful.

Here's one of the back side. No guarantee it's from this bike. All I know about it is it sat in the weather for almost 10 years before PO sold it to someone who started tearing it down, lost interest, then gave it to me. Notice the rust. Looks almost as bad as the inside of the tank on this bike did when I got it!

Nope I can not place it. I have done a couple of frame up resto's and do not recall ever seeing that part.

It looks like it might be part of a latch assembly, perhaps from some long-gone side bags or a top box. That's what came to mind at first glance.

Never seen one of those on a 1000...I think Scootsx2 might be on the right path though...

Thanks for the replies. Back in the box it goes. If I ever decide to part with this bike, I'm going to put that piece in the tool tray just to mess with the next owner ;)
