complete front end swap

#1

Post by dposer »

i was at the shop the other day and saw a front end off a 1983 gl1100 which has the 18 front. i like the looks of that wider tire better for the bike im building, plus its a black comstar which are my faves now has anyone done that swap before and if so what does it require? also are there any hondas which have the black com that will fit my rear end? i found a 17 black rear but dont know what its off of, and the spline spacing is a tad off (same spline as the 1000 strangely enough) i would hate to pull the wheel off my 900c just to find out if it fits

Sorry, i do not understand your post. swap from what to what? I also moved this to the general forum. The cross over forum is for known parts swaps. thanks.

Furthermore,83's don't have comstars they have cast wheels. It would help immensely if your bike(s) was (were) listed in your signature giving others some clue as to what you're working on!

You should be able to swap the entire front end (forks, brakes, wheel, triple clamps) over fairly easily. The main issues you would need to verify/resolve: steering stem length & bearing sizes.

As noted, please add your bike info to your sig.

There was a post of superskypilot on the Saunders site where he grafted an 83 front onto a 1000. I know he had to modify the stops, but I think the triples and down bolted up. I'll try and find it.

Here are some photos, but no write-up. http://goldwingfacts.com/forums/gallery ... derid=none There are more pics on page 10. I think he did this on a 1000 that he stuffed a 1200 into along with a 1200 rear end, but used the 83 front end.

no this is a 1100 front, it has a 18 inch comstar with the dual piston calipers and rotors that look like the stock 1000 ones it comes on a 1982 or 83 gl1100 not sure if standard or not

I probably misled you with the 1200 motor and swing arm info, but the front was from an 83 1100. It's a Frankenstein, but it looks good to me.
