should i lube a new clutch cable?

supposedly this cable is nylon lined, should i still lube it? regular engine oil work? or should i use a lighter oil?
1981 GL1100 w/vetter fairing
1984 kaw 750 turbo, intercooled, 23 psi boost

I just put on a throttle cable on my Yamaha, then had to pull it part way apart to lube it. YES, lube it. I used 3-in-1 oil. Some people use graphite, and ther isalso a silicone spray that works well with metal/nylon combo stuff, but I've not used it on cables (yet)...

Yes, I always lube new cables before installing them.

Having the 'similar threads' listed at the bottom of the page is a great idea .... many of the old posts are great information .... after all, our bikes are even older .... not that old is bad .... I hope.
