Overheating maybe

#1

Post by millerdog »

I’ve recently run into some possible overheating problems. My pump seems to be fine, and I see absolutely no scale inside the radiator. The problem I’m having is, yesterday, it was 9- outside, and going down the interstate at 7@ or 80, the fan would periodically come on even going down the highway. I had previously checked my timing, and found it to be quite a bit retarded, so J figured that was definitely part of the problem. I got that sorted out, and it did help a lot, but it’s still doing it at Interstate speeds. Is this normal in this hot if weather, or do you think someelse is going on. Also. It has a new thermostat. It doesn’t boil or anything, but it has me more than a little concerned. Thank y’ all In advance. Bike runs perfect otherwise. Maybe I’m just pushing it too hard! LOL

Did you check, or replace the fan switch? Could be reading high and coming on when you don’t have a problem.

I should add tat it really does seem like its running hot, even without looking at the gauge. Just seems weird to me that the fan would be coming on at highway speeds. I’m thinking about a new radiator at this point, but don’t want to spend the money , only to have the same problem. The gauge definitely runs up towards the high side, before the fan kicks on.

You could try a radiator/system flush if done correctly it can clean a lot of crap out of the water system.

Yep, if you think it is running hot, a flush may work, or take your radiator to a shop and have it tested.

Like I said. I just don’t want to go through all that, only to have the same problems. I’m still leaning towards a timing issue, but the radiator doesn’t look exactly new from the outside. The inside looks clean though.

A company called GPI racing. Seen them on eBay for $140.00. I think the name of the company selling them was Worley.

I thought it might be lean, but the plugs have a nice tan color.
