So I discovered the fuel pump on my GL1000 was leaking a little while ago, and hopped on ebay for a replacement (not one of the new ones, but that's a story for another time). I went to put it on, and noticed something I hadn't before. I had thought all the stock mechanical fuel pumps for the 1000 and 1100s were identical, and turns out they're.... not?
Yeah, they're functionally identical, but there are a bunch of minor differences. The biggest being the bottom "stems" (one is round, the other is flattened) and the top layout (screwed in barbs vs pressed in, slightly different top shape).
Does anyone know what the difference is? Was this a year change, a model change, or did Honda just use two different sources for their fuel pumps?

They used more than one manufacturer. Your original was made by Kyosan Denki and I saw a genuine Honda replacement on eBay that had KeiHin stamped on it.

I used a GL1100 pump on my '75 GL1000 engine in the Hunley. Worked fine. I seem to remember that the 1100 is supposed to have a bit more delivery volume.

I think I recall a post here years ago where some 1000 (probably 75’s??) had almost no thickness to the black spacer between the head and where the pump mounts. As such I believe it had a shorter arm which rides on the cam lobe.
