"Assembly Lube" substitute?

#1

Post by Pedrotq »

Gooday All GoldWing Lovers!

I am about to start rebuilding my #1 project which is a 1975 GL-1000. New rings, bearings etc.

I have been to several Auto Shops asking for "Assembly Lube" .... I always get a blank stare back as if I am asking for a "Pb lamp for a Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer"

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you, Peter.

I suspect that this is an example of the many ways that the "English" language is spoken throughout the world. I am sure that the product is available in Oz, just probably goes by a different name. Did you tell the guy at the counter what it's used for? I can't believe that folks in Australia don't rebuild motors, and they will need some way to lube things like cam lobes, etc. during startup, before oil begins to circulate?

I finally found an auto shop that did not have a 16 year old girl behind the counter yesterday, instead there was an ugly old man, but he knew what I was after and there it was on the shelf. Penrite Assembly Lube at $15.99 a 100g tube.

I am happy now and hope to begin the rebuild within the next few days. :-D

All the best to All, Peter.

Usually on a dry engine I just leave the plugs out and crank it over a few short bursts till the oil pressure light goes out. If it is dry inside I give the internals a mist of oil before closing things up. Doesn't do much for the mains and such but the no load cranking should not hurt anything I would think?

God Bless 16 year old girls at the parts counter!

O.K. seriously, glad you found what you needed. Just goes to prove that the world needs crusty old guys like us too!
