tach cable oil leak
My 1978 gl 1000 is leaking oil from where the tach cable goes into the engine behind the fuel pump. I found that the seal part number is 91256-096-651 but my honda manual doesn't say how to replace it. Can this be done with out tearing much apart? The diagram doesn't show how it's attached.

Yes it is just a press in seal. I think I used a sharp pick to get the old one out and pressed the new one in using a socket of the correct size.

I have a better repair than WF. Mine leaked and I ordered a new seal from Honda. When I got it I showed it to the bike and it quit leaking. As long as I keep the seal in the toolbox I think I'm safe.

Re: tach cable oil leak
When I replaced mine I took a couple of pics ....... maybe this will help you out. Pretty easy to get the seal out once you remove the housing. I poked a hole in the side of the seal and screwed in a small wood screw to pull it out.shersba wrote:Can this be done with out tearing much apart? The diagram doesn't show how it's attached.

Just make sure you rotate the housing to a null point on the cam Lobe before pushing it up against the head or the drive pad will not engage. One it is on then you can rotate the housing as needed to the upright position. Or you can bump the engine over to get it lined up.
