Ride to Work, 1st Time!

#1

Post by Roady »

Over my weekend (Tue & Wed) I got the front and rear lighting sorted out, rebuilt the front and rear master cylinders, adjusted the valves again (never can be sure, eh?) and bought a used tractor. Today, I finished up a bit of detail wrenching and decided to ride to work (start at 18:00). It was a beautiful day.

Here's Winnie, idling in the grass and patiently waiting for me.

First time I've had her on the road since the carb overhaul.

Dayum man! This baby gets up and scoots!

Good thing too, there's quite a bit of car dodging in downtown St. Louis.

Now, I guess the next project is to put some wax to her.

Oh, wait ... new project. When I got to work after the 25 minute drive, there was fluid of some kind dripping out of the water pump weep hole. And a bit of oil splash on the toe of my right boot. Guess I'll be doing a bit more tinkering tomorrow.

Maybe I'll just put off that wash job until we get a good rain storm. Then, go ride in it.

I'm just waiting for my water pump seal to go. Sitting all those years didn't seem to help anything rubber on mine, I need to put down pots and pans when I park. As WF says eventually you get them all fixed.
Enjoy life,
Cookie

Thanks guys.

Sure was a nice little trip to work and back. I couldn't think of anything else for the 8 hours. Rode home at 2 am, beautiful weather.

When I parked her in the shed there was a 2x2 inch block under one of the centerstand legs. I couldn't see it in the dark. Once I got her up she tipped to the right and flattened my rolling mechanic chair. Dayum. Only thing messed up was the right mirror, it got pulled off the shaft. I fixed that today by pulling out the mirror, peening the edged and tightening it back in place. Good as new (with a little dent in it). Luck of the Danish, eh?

Nice scoot. Are you going to do the daily commute and make the most of the ridin' weather?

Nice to have a 5 day, 8 hour shift (actually 7-1/4).

For 25 years I worked loooong hours. First in graphic arts for a publisher (tons of overtime) then as an applications rep for a typesetting equipment vendor (on-site worldwide). Usually 6, mostly 7 days a week. Missed a lot of the kids growing up, etc. etc.

Now I work for one of my former customers. Union shop but I'm non-represented. We get the same bennies as the union folk. I wasn't sure what to do with myself with all that free time. That's how I ended up with this new GW hobby!

Lovin' it, baby!

I could never go back to 5 day weeks myself. I work 3 12's and my week is over unless I work an overtime day. :-D
