BusaRider, ya that is good to hear. Not sure exactly where mine will end up. It probably won't want to fall into the curves either.

Read "busarider" about his looking at GL1800 swingarm. Mmmm, maybe if you ask around or are near a "trike install dealer" you could pick up or "borrow" a full rear swing arm as they are abundant at these places. They remove the whole rear unit and try to sell or use units a s replacement for rebuilding 2 wheeler wrecked vehicles. Maybe the "smaller/length size" would be a help to you and maybe ya could trade the Busa swingarm for a GL. Mmmmm. Never hurts to ask IF you get this build on a TV show....duh? Ya know sponsors, supporters, etc.

I too thought those looooooog swing arms were not good for roadriding. But have found if not "to lengthy" their not too bad for handling. But they sstill leave a lot to be desired. Just an honest opinion.

Going to be able to install the forks soon. Received the bearing kit to adapt the busa forks to the GL neck. Tomorrow going to a local motorcycle repair shop to have the lower bearing pressed on. I cut the busa bearing race off, it was for ball bearings. Only one knick with the cutoff wheel, the old eyesight did me in again!

The busa stem is not over long I think it will work by grinding some off the neck tube on the frame because the race on top is alot narrower than the orginal GL was, to get the races in as far as possible. If that doesn't work may have to make a new race tube and cut down the neck. Only need about 1/8" to mount up the lock nuts on top.

Excited about getting forks mounted and see how the ride height looks.

What front rim are you going to be running? If it is stock, I'm guessing she's going to ride a tad low. :-)

Going to run a rear Lester?

Front will be stock hayabusa 17". Rear will probably be compairable to the overall diameter of the orginal GL1800 to keep final ratio close to stock. Going to use a automotive 17" to bolt up to the swingarm hub.

Might want to run a slightly bigger tire on the front with that 17"... I'm going the same route, but figure the frame will be dragging with the stock tire.

I forgot you were planning on running the 1800 rear swing arm....makes sense to run an automotive rim for a custom.

Good idea with a variable of the front tire size allowed by the rim. Ya with the automotive rear wheel will have alot of choices of style and tire size and picking proper backspacing to get the tire in the center of the track. Will have to research bolt pattern on rear hub to find a manufactuer bolt pattern or will have to make a adapter.

You are going to put a hayabusa fork on also? Any trouble with the stem length?

I've got everything sitting in the garage, (complete front end from an 07 Busa, replacement bearings) but have yet to have time to try and install it.

Small update, got the stem/lower tree back from shop, pressed on okay. Put in the lower race and tried the stem. A little short, think will be able to get enough space for the jam nuts by grinding off top of fork tube to scribed line the new race is narrower than orginal. Also will try to mill off .050 on side of each jam nut. Don't think can get any room on the bottom bearing, race is seated and bearing is the thickness it is.

You might just get away with grinding the top of the stem off...will milling the nuts a bit weaken them to where you couldn't torque them down?

Good point. They have really fine threads, but I don't know what the torque should be. I will try the neck work first.

Front end is on!

Ground down the top and bottom of the neck. Gained enough to torque down one stem nut. It will probably work with that. The upper tree being torqued down and attached to fork tubes will prevent the stem nut from moving.........not factory, but I have seen this on older bikes.

Love the look.

The wheelbase is close to orginal 1" less. Will put on the floor to check ground clearance and "stance".

Please post pictures of when you get her on the ground...I know the engine will weigh her down some, but if she has good clearance, I may not move my neck down on my project. Good job! :-D

Will do. Wingrider thanks for following this. A little tedious thread but I think a person needs these details when researching.
