are you painting the rear of the motor, e.g. the alternator housing, starter area, and other nearby spots, love the black wrinkle. What a good job you got going so fare. best of luck.

The folding table is a great idea. A temp paint booth!

Tell me you didn't use sand or glass beads to blast the engine? That is something that really shouldn't be done. Walnut shells or soda is best for engine parts.

It has to be more user friendly than paint-stripper, which is what I used!

@abert51- the entire engine is painted. Might not look like it in the sunlight though :)

@robin1731- yep. Used black diamond blast media. I've had excellent results with that. I didn't take it all the way down to bare aluminum in most places. Just roughed up the surface enough for paint to adhere.

Thanks Sunnbobb, duke182 & Hal ;)

A polished final drive would really set off the black of the engine.

First I would like to say I love the work you've done so far, the black wrinkle and polished parts look great. And I hate when someone says "no offense" because its always followed by something offensive. So here goes NO OFFENSE, but you do realize that kamikaze pilots were basically suicide bombers that killed American soldiers. I've said my piece now I will leave it alone. Again great looking bike so far can't wait to see how it turns out.

@gregforesi- nice one. But I think that might take I bit longer than the intakes with mixed results. I agree...would look sweet.

@jafo- I do realize they were essentially suicide bombers. But from what I've researched, they followed the code of Bushido - loyalty and honor till the death. Sounds like they were modern day samurai. I've always been fascinated by that, so I figured why not. Glad you like the look ;)

Hand sanded and painted the radiator today. Same black wrinkle high temp finish. I'll snap a pic tomorrow.

And I had an epiphany tonight! Got a sweet idea that I hope works out. I'll fill all y'all in later.

Haven't had much time in the last week or so to do much on the bike. Here's that pic of the radiator with new paint. Cleaned up the heat shield today and hit that with a little bit of gloss black (sorry, no pic). Hopefully this week I'll get a new thermostat and all the plumbing back on her. Then the carbs!

@whittmann- not sure if VHT makes a matte version, but my block has low sheen. Looks to be a satin finish. And it won't take long for dirt and grime to turn it flat ;) Also, you could use this wrinkle finish, then apply a coat of flat hi temp over it. That should do the trick.

Really looking good. Just enough shiny bits to make it pop!
