Hi all! Very new here, and still researching everyday. I've already found tons of helpful write-ups so far. Thanks for those! I still don't have my computer running, so no pics as of yet. But so far I've decided to completely tear down the bike. I'll post pics ASAP as I have kept a visual journal in the last few weeks. Everything so far I've done myself. Frame is sanded and repainted. Engine has been taken out, sandblasted and coated in a high temp black wrinkle finish. Got the block back in the frame yesterday. Just about everything that was painted has gotten or will get a new coating. Carb rebuild next. Intakes have been polished. A new seat pan is halfway welded up. And my plastics are coming along with the Kamikaze rising sun theme. Can't wait to post pics, and get her all bolted up. But still a long way off. Brakes and forks still need to be rebuilt. Gauges moved etc etc etc.

Just wanted to post an update and say thanks again for very helpful how-to's!! Hats off to y'all!

~Adam

So here's the bike in the P.O.'s garage. I'll try to upload as many as I can. Sucks going from iPhone app to app for pic upload. Sorry if the pics come out oversized. I've adjusted them down to 320x320 and they still seem big. Maybe it's just my phone?

Starting at the pavement and working up is always the best choice on any old bike. Good call on the brakes. A complete brake rebuild is expensive, but sometimes they come in handy.

So I figured I may as well post pics of the plastics I'm painting. Wouldn't be but a tease without pics of my theme. Here's a kamikaze flag that is my inspiration...Image

The mock up...Image

...and one side almost done. I'll put a clear coat over it when the kanji is complete.

Blood, sweat and a few tears getting this out. Don't ask. Just a heads up to those new at this like me...read the ENTIRE how-to before attempting anything. Lol

Image

Before and after polishing. I used Tripoli compound on my 1/3 hp buffer

Image

Tagged & bagged all the little ----.

Image

Polished the caps too. And used Rustoleum plastic paint for the accent

I've got a lot more pics, but it's getting late. I'll try posting more tomorrow.

Bloody telepathy. I was intending to incorporate the Nippon flag in the design for my rig!

Not to worry......maybe I'll just leave it yellow instead.

I was going to do a sort of Bosozoku revival paintjob.....

@sunnbobb...don't let the zip locks fool you. You can't see the floor in the pic. Lol

@Hal... Go for revival! Always great to see variations on a similar theme! I'd like to see your take on it!

@wingless...Thanks! ;)

Did a tail chop. The plan is to mount tail light INSIDE the frame housing and run the wiring along the frame behind the battery box.

Image

Seat pan framing. It'll take 18 ga. Sheet once I get the framing welded up. I wanted to go flat across the top and go with a different gas tank, but I may nix that idea and stick with stock. Just cut out that wide cross member I welded in.

Image

My blast cabinet it too small, so I decided to make a temp one. An old folding card table does the trick. Just some 3 mil plastic sheeting taped around and I'm good to go.

Image

Image

...and here's the block all blasted. Cut the top off the plastic for the pic. This worked quite well. I just made a slit to insert the gun and a smaller one to view. Moved around the sides that way

Image

And here it is all degreased with a black high temp wrinkle finish. I set the intakes for aesthetics. I like just a touch of class on her ;)

Now I just need $ for a carb rebuild. There's plenty to do without spending cash. Yesterday I painted the thermostat housing after sandblasting it along with the block. Black wrinkle paint for it too so it disappears ;) rad fan housing got the same treatment. Wire brushed the rad, but that'll get a gloss black like the frame- sans fins.
