John said "You've seen my bikes. They are in excellent shape and you could fill them with gas and ride either one coast to coast. I didn't buy them in that condition. I worked through the issues one issue at a time as did the rest of the folks on this forum. So keep the faith and you'll get there." and that is true for many of us.

I chased a stalling issue for a long time before installing a new fuel pump. We'll get this one figured out in time. Perhaps next weekend we can try again.

I found the problem. I got so excited that I called Jdvorchak and Ritalz instead of posting right away. Turns out the 2 plates that contract and expand on the butterfly shaft when you adjust the screw (I'm not good at describing it) were gummed up really bad. The only way to expand them was to pry with a screw driver and that was even difficult. I pulled the adjuster screw, spring and washers and gave the shaft a good soaking of carb cleaner and worked the plates back and forth with a pair of pliers. After a couple minutes of spraying, working, spraying and working, it freed up and now it adjusts as it should! action1

John, did you get your fork issue worked out last night? Sorry again for interrupting your work but I had to call and tell you!

My phone was acting strange last night and wouldn't hardly respond to the keys. I'll be curious to know how she runs when you put her back together. Fix the gas leak at the petcock while you are working. Let me know what is up for the weekend.

I too am anxious to see how it runs now.

And yes I got the fork oil changed and the ride is no longer harsh but it is firm. I no longer feel small bumps and the deep ones don't jar my teeth. Thank you for asking.

About this weekend Saturday is my birthday but I'm too old to celebrate. A road trip to your house could be in order. So far I haven't made any plans for the weekend.

Carbs are in but not bolted down. I had other things pop up this evening. I'm hoping to start it up again tomorrow, say a prayer that it will run fine.

John, Saturday is your day. I wouldn't expect anyone to come by. I'll play around a bit and if I can get it close enough to test ride. I'll work on a few other necessities and get with you later.

Glad to hear you got the forks lined out!

So, what's the plan for the weekend? Any news out of Smithton since you found the shaft problem? I'm fairly open with only a few minor things planned. Momma still don't feel so good and the boys are either working or out of town. It's supposed to be warm and dry till Monday.

I'll give you a call. I haven't had much time this week to play with the bike. I've had something each night this week and tonight I came home to a foul smell in the garage. Turns out my freezer quit and I had to toss over $300 in meat. It was painful throwing t bones and strip steaks in the trash. Tomorrow morning I plan on sterilizing the garage after t ball then figuring out where to go with a trash can full of meat. Since this is a holiday weekend over 90 degrees, I'm not sure this can sit until next Thursday! :drunk

Sorry Saturday is out for me as well. I am riding to Houston, MO with my son Nick to a benefit. It's about 180 miles one way so it will take us all day.

Bummer. I'd be looking for a place to unload or bury that.

I finally got the chance to play with the bike yesterday but it was short lived. Turns out the starter now stays engaged even when I turn on the key. There must be an issue with the bar switch. I put out a post in the Wanted section for a replacement.

Ugh, more delays!!

Starter selenoid probably went bad. I would check that before lookiong for a switch.

I agree that your switch is flakey but the symptom you describe points to the selenoid. I wired in one from a electric start lawn mower on the 75. Most any parts store (Advance, Auto Zone, etc) will have them. Cheaper and works well.
